Understanding South Copeland’s Geology: Join the Experts- Drigg and Carleton

01/02/2024 - 18:00-20:00

Join us for an enlightening exploration into how geological studies are planned and undertaken to inform the design and long-term safety of constructing a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF).

Experts from Nuclear Waste Services (NWS), Fiona McEvoy (Head of Site Characterisation and Research & Development) and members of her team, will be discussing their work to date to understand the rocks in the subsurface off Copeland. This includes their work developing a digital geological model from seismic data, studies on rock samples from boreholes previously drilled by other organisations in the broader region as well as studies of comparable rocks in other parts of the country.

They will share what is known about the geology in Copeland, what continuing investigations would look like, and explain the significance of this in ensuring the long-term safety of our communities and the environment.

The Community Partnership will be in attendance.

Venue: Drigg and Carleton Village Hall, Drigg, Holmrook, CA19 1XF

Date: Thursday, 1 February 2024
